Let's get this out of the way so all of the state loving, constitution licking, "If you don't vote you can't complain" cry babies start throwing around accusations for loss. I've heard it all this election season. From "a vote for Johnson is a vote for Hillary" to "a vote for Johnson is a vote for Trump", it's getting real freaking old. Now that I've essentially renounced Johnson, the new one I get, although I'm pretty sure it's an ancient adage, is "If you don't vote, you can't complain". I'm here to tell you why that is the biggest, heaping pile of steaming shit I've ever heard.
First of all, it assumes that voting somehow changes things. As I said at the beginning, it's been a regular thing to hear from both sides that voting for the party I identify with more is actually voting for some alternative party, other than the one I would presumably vote for. I'm sorry, I didn't notice all of those magic vote changing fairies flying over head. That's how ridiculous that idea is. MAGIC VOTE CHANGING FAIRIES DO NOT EXIST! I've also heard that voting third party is the height of white privilege... That assumes that any candidate who gets elected is going to somehow be better for minority communities, when even the very idea that minority communities must rely on a master (president) is TOTALLY racist. If a president can make your life that much of a living hell because of the color of your skin, maybe we should abolish the position. The problem with all of this is that they don't change anything. Every president since the beginning of this country has grown government in some way. Every time government grows, people die, freedom is lost, and you get robbed. Whoever wins will absolutely do the same thing.
On to the true premise here. "If you don't vote, you can't complain". Are there magic mouth sealing fairies out there who are going to seal my mouth until I vote again? For that matter, did you vote on the school bond? Cause if you didn't, according to your logic, you can't complain. Are you going to stop me from speaking my mind? Cause that's totally not a violent government like thing to do, is it? Where did this idea come from? I've always known that it was bull shit. I like to think of it as the equivalent of saying "If you don't pick a whip, you can't complain when you get hit"... OF COURSE I CAN!!! In fact, I should be complaining more about you than the president! You keep choosing dumb ass, evil people to continue the cycle of oppression! Yeah, that's right. OPPRESSION!!! (all caps equals yelling, fyi)
The only thing that can change ANYTHING is if people stop buying into the idea that every 4 years, we need to pick a new master to run the institution that holds a monopoly on violence in nearly every geographical location known to man. You know who else hadn't voted, but still complained. Those founding fathers you claim to love so much. What did they do? They freaking took up arms and shot their oppressors in the freaking face! That is how much they complained!
Regardless of who wins this election, wars will continue, we'll still be robbed, money will continue to become more and more worthless, the racial divide will continue to grow, the left/right paradigm will get even stronger, and we'll be over all screwed DAILY. I don't buy the idea that some how it's the end of the world if someone gets elected. That's only because the continuance of a violent institution only means more of the same. As long as there's a government, there will be more power grabbing and stomping on our liberty. All that means is I WILL CONTINUE TO BITCH ABOUT THIS SYSTEM FOREVER, regardless of whether or not I vote. I'm not going to shut up just because you think I somehow lose a natural right by not exercising a totally arbitrary one that I view as completely pointless. Don't dictate to me what my conscious says I should do. You're just a human like every one running for president. That's precisely why I'm not voting.
